Our approach to optimizing processes to reduce the use of resources is “from rough to detailed” or “top down”. This method, through the systematic, phenomenological representation of system elements and functional relationships between the material components, significantly improves the understanding of the influencing variables of the individual processes and provides relevant information with regard to the interactions between the process steps and the identification of further optimization possibilities. With the “top down” approach, the field of view is at first is broader and then detailed step by step. This avoids starting with detailed surveys when investigating the problem area before completely structuring the problem area.
When designing solutions, general goals and a general solution framework are defined first. Then the level of detail and degree of specification is gradually deepened. Consistent concepts at higher levels ensure that the interactions are considered in all approaches.
